Keqiao, in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, hosts China Textile City — the largest textile trading market in Asia and the reference price point for polyester and blended fabrics worldwide. The market runs to several million square metres of trading space with tens of thousands of registered merchants, and the surrounding Shaoxing area is one of China's biggest dyeing and printing clusters, handling a very large share of the country's polyester woven and knit production. Annual transaction value is measured in the hundreds of billions of RMB.
The chain is unusually integrated: yarn texturing, weaving and circular knitting, dyeing and finishing, digital and rotary-screen printing, bonding, laminating and coating are all within a half-hour drive. That matters for development speed — a buyer can select a quality in the market in the morning, have a lab dip the same week, and get a 50-metre sample roll inside ten days. It also means the market can quote almost any construction: 40S cotton poplin, 75D polyester spandex jersey, 600D Oxford, 3-layer softshell, or a 300 gsm brushed fleece.
Commercially the advantage is selection and price transparency, since thousands of sellers quote the same construction. The trade-offs are that the market is a trading floor, not a factory — many stalls broker to outside mills — and that quality varies by mill and dye lot. Buyers should fix the specification in writing (composition, gsm, width, shrinkage, colour fastness), approve a bulk sample against a lab dip, and test each dye lot rather than assuming continuity.
Trial order: 50–300 m per quality for sampling and small production runs, 3,000–10,000 m for bulk. Lead time 10–15 days for stock qualities, 20–30 days for custom dyeing or printing. Specify gsm tolerance (±5%), width, shrinkage (≤3% warp/weft after wash) and colour fastness (≥4 grey scale) in the PO, and test every dye lot — lot-to-lot shade variation is the number one claim in this market.
