Sourcing Cluster Guide · Industrial
China's aluminium extrusion capital — the dies, anodising lines and 6,000-tonne presses behind a third of the country's architectural profiles.
Nanhai, and the Dali town within it, is the largest aluminium profile cluster in China. Foshan's extrusion industry produces an estimated one-third of the country's aluminium profiles, with several hundred extrusion plants, anodising and powder-coating lines, die shops and hardware suppliers packed into a few dozen square kilometres. The district is the birthplace of several of China's best-known architectural aluminium brands and remains the reference market for profile design and surface treatment.
Vertical depth is the reason buyers source here rather than closer to their market. Die design and manufacture, billet casting, extrusion on presses from 600 to 6,000 tonnes, anodising, electrophoresis, powder coating, PVDF coating, thermal-break assembly with PA66-GF25 strips, CNC machining and fabrication all exist as specialised businesses within the district. A new profile can be die-sketched, sampled and anodised in under two weeks, and a fabricator can buy finished windows or loose profiles from the same street.
What separates good from average suppliers is measurable: billet quality (and therefore surface finish after anodising), die maintenance, film thickness control and dimensional tolerance. Chinese domestic standard GB/T 5237 is widely met; European buyers should specify EN 755-9 tolerance and Qualanod/Qualicoat-compliant coating thickness, and expect a mill certificate with each heat number. We test film thickness, seal quality and alloy composition on every pre-shipment lot.
Profiles are quoted by weight (USD/tonne) plus a one-off die charge of roughly USD 300–800 per section; minimum order is normally 500 kg–1 tonne per die, or one 20ft of mixed sections. Lead time is 15–20 days for existing dies, 25–35 days including a new die. Specify alloy and temper, wall thickness with tolerance, surface treatment and film thickness, and length; request a mill certificate, a 15-day salt-spray report and a 3-metre sample before mass production. We check wall thickness at six points per profile — the most common source of disputes.
