China's toothbrush capital — billions of brushes a year, plus the full disposable hotel-amenity stack.
Hangji, a single town in Yangzhou, is the largest toothbrush manufacturing cluster in China and is widely referred to as the country's toothbrush capital. The town and its surrounding villages host well over a thousand brush-related workshops and finishing plants, and account for the majority of China's manual toothbrush output — an estimated several billion brushes per year, exported to more than 80 countries. Alongside brushes, Yangzhou is one of China's principal sources of disposable hotel amenities: slippers, dental kits, shampoo bottles, shower caps and vanity sets.
The supply chain here is unusually complete for such a small product. Bristle tufting machines, handle injection moulding, DuPont-grade nylon filament, end-rounding equipment, blister-card printing and folding carton production all sit within a few kilometres. That density means a new handle shape can go from 3D drawing to a moulded sample in under two weeks, and a private-label carton can be printed without leaving the town. Many plants run both a high-volume hotel/airline line and a smaller retail line under the same roof.
For buyers, the appeal is cost per unit at genuine retail quality — the same plant that supplies 10-cent airline brushes also runs 0.12 mm end-rounded DuPont filament for European drugstore brands. The risk is that quality varies sharply between workshops, so filament grade, tuft retention and end-rounding must be specified in writing and verified by inspection rather than assumed from a photo.
Trial order: 3,000–10,000 pcs per manual brush SKU, 1,000–3,000 sets for hotel kits; mixed SKUs in one container is normal. Lead time 15–25 days for stock handles, 25–35 days with custom tooling or printed blister cards. Insist on written filament spec (material, diameter, stiffness), tuft-pull retention test and end-rounding certification; we inspect AQL 2.5 on tuft retention, handle flash and print registration before loading.
