The porcelain capital of China for 1,700 years — bone china, blue-and-white and high-white tableware from a city built entirely around clay and fire.
Jingdezhen has been China's imperial porcelain centre since the Song dynasty, and the name is still synonymous with fine ceramic. The city's ceramic industry now spans several thousand companies, studios and kilns, with an annual ceramic output value estimated at over RMB 50 billion and daily-use porcelain exported to more than 100 countries. Around the old kiln districts — Yuzhou, Taoxichuan, Sanbao — production sits alongside a dense ecosystem of glaze suppliers, decal printers, plaster mould makers and kiln engineers.
The chain depth is what sets Jingdezhen apart from generic tableware towns. Local white clay bodies still draw on kaolin from nearby Gaoling, the mineral that gave the world the word 'kaolin'. Body formulation, slip casting, jiggering, hand-painting, decal application, gold-band firing and third-firing decoration are all available as separate specialist services, so a buyer can combine a bone-china body from one workshop with underglaze decoration from another and a gift-box packer from a third. Small electric and gas shuttle kilns mean a 500-piece trial run is economically viable, not a concession.
That flexibility cuts both ways. Jingdezhen is excellent for design-led, high-mix, low-volume tableware and giftware, and weaker at the relentless cost-down volume work that Chaozhou and Liling do well. Buyers should also be explicit about food-contact compliance: bone ash content, lead and cadmium release and thermal shock resistance vary widely between studios, and 'bone china' is frequently claimed for bodies with no bone ash at all. Our process starts with a body-composition and leach test before any decoration discussion.
Trial orders typically run 300–500 pcs per shape or design, with mixed shapes allowed inside one 20ft container. Lead time is 30–45 days after sample approval for stock shapes, and 45–60 days for new moulds. Always request the body specification (bone ash %, firing temperature), a lead/cadmium leach report to FDA 21 CFR 175.300 or California Prop 65, and a microwave/dishwasher cycle test — we arrange all three, plus a 100% visual inspection against a signed golden sample before packing.
