China's home-textile capital — bedding, towels and curtains from the Dieshiqiao cluster.
Nantong, on the north bank of the Yangtze near Shanghai, is China's largest home-textile production and trading base. The Dieshiqiao market in Haimen district is the country's biggest bedding and home-textile wholesale market, with tens of thousands of booths and an estimated 10,000+ manufacturing enterprises in the surrounding towns. Nantong is commonly cited as supplying around 40% of China's domestic bedding output and a large share of its exported quilts, sheet sets and towels.
The cluster covers the whole textile chain locally: yarn spinning and dyeing, weaving and knitting, reactive and digital printing, quilting, embroidery, cut-and-sew and finishing. That verticality is why Nantong can handle both 40S commodity percale at very low cost and 100S long-staple sateen with a five-colour reactive print, and why fabric lead time is measured in days rather than weeks. Towel mills, curtain converters and blanket knitters sit in adjacent towns, so a single home-textile container can mix bedding, towels and throws.
For buyers, Nantong's advantage is price at a genuine retail grade — but thread count and fibre content are the two claims most often inflated in this market. 'Egyptian cotton' is frequently a long-staple blend, and '600TC' sometimes counts each ply separately. Specify yarn count (40S/60S/100S), fabric weight in gsm and fibre composition in the PO, and verify with a shrinkage and colourfastness test before bulk.
Trial order: 300–500 sets per design for bedding, 1,000 pcs for towels, 500 m for fabric. Lead time 25–35 days, 35–45 days for custom printing. Require a pre-production sample with the actual fabric, a shrinkage test (≤3% warp/weft after 3 washes) and a colourfastness report (4–5 grade); we verify GSM, stitch density and label compliance on the loading inspection.
